What is EarthCraft?

“In 1999, the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association and Southface launched EarthCraft House, a residential green building program designed to address the climate conditions of the Southeast. A blueprint for creating and maintaining energy- and resource-efficient living environments, the EarthCraft House program is intended for single-family detached homes, townhomes and duplexes.

EarthCraft House certifications are determined through a points-based worksheet, which allows builders to select the sustainability measures that are best suited for their project. Worksheet items address proper site planning, energy-efficient appliances and lighting, resource-efficient building materials, indoor air quality, water conservation and homebuyer education, and all are verified during site visits and inspections. EarthCraft-certified homes must also pass diagnostic tests for air infiltration and duct leakage standards, and homes certified at the gold or platinum levels must meet ENERGY STAR requirements. EarthCraft Technical Advisors provide technical assistance to the builder during the initial design review and throughout project design and construction.”

Thrive Homes EarthCraft

Thrive Homes offers homeowners the unique opportunity to purchase a home that is designed to fit into the fabric of its surrounding historic neighborhood, while taking advantage of modern technology and building techniques to provide an energy and resource efficient home in which the homeowners can recognize a higher quality of life as well as significant savings. Thrive Homes places a large emphasis on the future benefits the homeowner will realize as a result of their home being built to EarthCraft standards, demonstrating cost savings recognized in EarthCraft homes and detailing the construction techniques that enhance the function and durability of the home. Prior to drywall installation, Thrive Homes conducts a walk-through of the home with the homeowners to visually convey the building practices and materials used to achieve this standard of construction. Upon completion of the home, Thrive Homes provides the homeowner with the EarthCraft certificate.
